Well boy was I off earlier tonight in my assessment and prediction. Instead of a 2 point night - it's a no as in "nada" or zero point night for the Caps. Buffalo just basically stuffed the Caps, out working them and out fore-checking them tremendously. The Sabres shut down the Caps offense totally and when the Caps did get a few good shots, Ryan Miller was perfect. All around the Caps were just basically flat. The only high point is probably that Tom Poti returned to form and logged workhorse minutes tonight; good thing too because apparently Shaone Morrisonn may be injured. Coach Boudreau called out the fist line tonight for lack of two way play, but I think when he watches the film, he'll also be having a discussion with Mike Green too. From what I saw, it sure seems like Mike Green needs to take a little more care of the defensive side of thing. I love the offensive punch Green brings from the blue line, but tonight when he pressed he got burned. Of course to some degree so did the entire Capitals team.
All that said, in addition to the Caps being flat and loosing the game, the Sabres definitely won the game as well. Thomas Vanek was awesome. The Jason Pominville goal was also very pretty. Well not much else to say if you're a Sabres fan, I guess it was pretty satisfying. Let's all hope Alexander Ovechkin's travel back to DC is safe and speedy and tonight's brutal handling by the Sabres jolts the Caps back to the team we all know they can be, before they face the Senators in Ottawa on Tuesday night.
